A film crew from the BBC automotive show Top Gear is now at the South Iceland volcano filming in excellent weather – but it was not easy to get there.
It took James May and his Top Gear crew ten hours to get to Fimmvorduhals in Tuesday’s exceptionally cold, snowy and windy conditions. Their convoy of super jeeps from Arctic Trucks would normally have expected to get there in around two hours.
The team, including volcanologist Haraldur Sigurdsson, has been rewarded with two days of perfect filming weather yesterday and today: bright sunshine and mild breezes.
The BBC crew started out at Solheimar on Tuesday and headed over the Myrdalsjokull glacier in six specially adapted super jeeps and two snowmobiles. The ten hour trip over the glacier would normally have taken two hours or less.
